Money & Pensions Service

The MoneyHelper divorce and separation information is available to give you all the guidance you need when it comes to managing your finances during a relationship break-up.

It doesn’t matter what your situation is. You may be divorcing or separating; have children or not; own your home or rent; or live in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. MoneyHelper have guides that will cover your specific situation.

Healthy Start

if you’re more than 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under 4, you may be entitled to get help to buy healthy food and milk.

If you’re eligible, you’ll be sent a Healthy Start card with money on it that you can use in some UK shops. We’ll add your benefit onto this card every 4 weeks.

You can use your card to buy:

  • plain liquid cow’s milk
  • fresh, frozen, and tinned fruit and vegetables
  • fresh, dried, and tinned pulses
  • infant formula milk based on cow’s milk

You can also use your card to collect:

  • vitamin drops for babies and young children – these are suitable from birth to 4 years old
  • Healthy Start vitamins – these support you during pregnancy and breastfeeding

Get emergency food from a Food Bank

If you need help, a food bank can provide an emergency food parcel containing at least three days of meals.

In order to get help from a food bank you’ll need to be referred for a food voucher. The voucher is then exchanged at the food bank for a food parcel. 

You can get a food voucher from a number of local community organisations, who can ensure you get the right support.

Family Action support

Across the UK, Family Action protect children, support young people and adults and offer direct, practical help to families and communities.

Family Action have self-help resources, local services, and a free helpline, FamilyLine – to help you through whatever problems you or your family are facing.

The Citizens advice service can help provide information and guidance around housing, eviction, finding somewhere to live, help with homelessness, renting from a private landlord, council housing, deposits, paying rent, repairs and housing conditions and much more.
